We crave peace. Do we?

A view to see.

It’s been looooong since I have written anything!! Been quite busy with work and all! Shooting weddings is a major part of my work, and the other major part is processing them! I tend to deviate from the topic, always!

I met a friend of mine, after really long! Whenever we meet, we always talk about films, and this tv series, and that trailer, and this music. You get it right? We slowly slip and space out into this wonderful world.

What I love about our discussions is that we don’t see movies as an escape from the world, but to understand, and analyse it in a better way. Our discussion started off with making a short film, continued to some stories (he is a writer) that came to his mind, and then it haulted at this movie called “Snowpiercer”, starring the famous Chris Evans.

Snowpiercer is a Sci-fi movie set in the future, what’s left of the human race survive a failed climatic experiment, and are onboard a train called the snowpiercer. The train is divided into classes, where the owner and inventor of the train, and the Wilford industries, Mr. Wilford is in the front of the train, and the low class citizens are allowed to stay in the tail of the train.

Snowpiercer is one of the very few movies which represents our present day society metaphorically in the form of a class system present in the train.

A man from the lowest class at the end of the train, and Mr. Wilford, the richest man on the train, communicate with each other to run the train successfully with limited supplies of the necessities.

A rebellion takes place, due to the continued torturous treatment towards the lower class, where they move ahead from car to car to reach the front.

In this process, the director reveals to us how fucked up the human mentality is!

Me: It doesn’t matter to us even if we are on the brink of extinction, the human mind always craves for more, and it doesn’t mind suppressing fellow human beings for their luxurious life style.

My friend: But that’s how the train runs. Otherwise they wouldn’t have made it for 17 long years.

It is kind of true, when it pertains to the movie, and also this world. In the movie, the inventor of the train agitates the lower class so much to cause a rebellion, so that in the process, a few of the people living on the train would get killed, so that a balance of population is restored to the train. Is this what is happening in the world we live in?

This conversation then headed to a book called ” This Perfect Day”. This book written by Ira Levin is a sci-fi novel, where humans are programmed by a computer, so that no same human likes the same thing. That way, no one would be jealous of one another, no one would want what the other one wants, and everyone can live like a family in a world filled with peace, and nothing but peace. But like every computer, this one has bugs too, and every once in a while it programs a human with a glitch; he wants what others want, he craves for things. These gitches are called incurables. What ultimately happens in the end is that these incurables find the computer, and plan to destroy it, and in this process meet the scientist who invented this computer. The scientist argues with them saying that they have found the solution to world peace, and now they want to destroy it since they have cravings, and wants.

What I am trying to tell is, there are so many world leaders, so many people, so many organisations working everyday to make this world a better place, to make world peace happen. We crave peace so much.

But if at all it is possible to have world peace, a world without hatred, and wars, would we want it?

Would we want a world with just peace, where everyone agrees with everyone?

Snowpiercer and This Perfect day are both set in the future with two different scenarios, both trying to save the human race, but in two different ways.
